Exercise Week 16: Training Attention 1


Practice Time: 34 min:35 sec

Training Time: Practice every day for 1 week noticing everytime your attention shifts from the meditation technique. When it does, acknowledge it, and gently bring your attention back.

Satipatthana Sutta Reference: "When the mind is concentrated, they know that the mind is concentrated. When the mind is not concentrated, they know that the mind is not concentrated.' Click Here

Factors Being Trained: Increases the factor of Concentration, increases understanding of the nature of awareness and how awareness focusses for Mindfulness in Daily Life practice

This is the 16th Mindfulness training technique, it builds sensitivity to the movement of attention allowing the meditator to detect a drop in focus and concentration faster.

In particular it builds understanding on how concentration develops and how attention can be trained .

In particular it builds understanding on how concentration develops and how attention can be trained. Through the use of labels - intentional thinking, it seperates our attention from - unintentional thinking, and helps to break the cycle

Training Time: Learn this skill and then apply it to exercise 16 & 17 practicing daily for one week.

Factors Being Trained: Increases the factors of Mindfulness & Concentration, develops understanding of the nature of thinking for Mindfulness in Daily Life practice

This is the 18th Mindfulness training technique, it builds sensitivity to the movement of attention allowing the meditator to detect a drop in focus and concentration faster.

In particular it develops understanding on how to keep the momentum of concentration when distracted. It also develops greater understanding of the true nature of thinking and changes our relationship to it from one of enchantment to wisdom.
